The Florence City Design Review Board approved a certificate of appropriateness for exterior alterations at Crew Wine & Tap, 122 West Evans Street (Florence County tax map 90168-02-014), including adding a pop-up serving window, fabric awnings, and repainting the façade.
A board member announced a recusal at the start of the item. Planning staff said the applicant initially sought one serving window and later requested the COA allow serving windows in both storefront openings; staff showed a precedent at the Bird’s Nest on South Dargan Street. Contractor Billy McBride described the proposed pop-up window as a two-piston style that opens and closes in one frame and said it will resemble the existing windows. The applicant’s team said the proposed paint is “architectural bronze,” matching the existing door color, and the awnings would be green fabric.
A motion to approve the COA as submitted, including the option for a mirror-image service window on the opposite opening, passed by voice vote. The chair noted that staff can issue a COA that allows both windows while the applicant may choose to install one or both.
