The Florence City Design Review Board voted to issue a certificate of appropriateness to demolish a commercial building at 262 West Chavez Street (Florence County tax map 90087-01-015) in the downtown overlay district.
Planning staff said the building, built in 1955 and located across from First United Methodist Church, is zoned Central Business District and that the new owner wants to demolish it and redevelop the parcel. Staff also said the Florence County Historical Commission found no historical significance on July 14. Staff showed site photos and noted a recent fire at the building.
Board members moved to approve the demolition request without further conditions; the chair announced the certificate will be issued.
