Forney ISD reports mixed progress on board academic goals; early literacy shows gains

Forney ISD administrators told the Board of Trustees the district is making progress toward several board-adopted academic goals but noted uneven results across measures.
Robin Pierce, chief of innovation, reported the district's college, career and military readiness metrics. Pierce said college readiness measures are 12 percentage points above the district's target, while industry-based career-certification rates dipped about 2 percentage points; the district plans to focus on juniors for certification opportunities. Pierce said the district is increasing ASVAB test offerings, adding a Saturday test date and more recruiter participation at college-career events to lift military-readiness results.
Leslie Raider (presentation role: early-literacy lead) reviewed kindergarten through third-grade literacy and early math goals. The district fell just short of its third-grade reading target (52% met versus a 54% target) but showed stronger results in second and first grades. The district said 71 teachers will participate in Texas Reading Academies this year and previewed new math board goals included later in the consent agenda.
Trustees did not take action on these reports, which the board classed as informational.
