The Forney ISD Board of Trustees approved three policy revisions required by the 89th Texas Legislature as first-and-final readings.
Doctor Stormy Lamont, chief of staff, explained the changes: an update to EFB(Local) on parental rights related to library materials; revisions to FM(Local) clarifying enrollment requirements for participation in extracurricular activities, including University Interscholastic League events; and changes to FNCE(Local) establishing limits on use of personal communication devices on district property with exceptions tied to Individualized Education Programs and similar plans. Lamont said the expedited first-and-final reading was necessary because the statutes must be implemented before the first day of school.
Superintendent Dr. Terry Cherry told trustees the district will return to the board in September with additional policy changes to implement other parts of the legislative package. The board approved the three policy revisions on a voice vote with no dissent.
