Brian Holloway, representing the Dharma Realm Buddhist Temple Association, asked the West Sacramento Planning Commission on Aug. 7 to visit the association's site near City Hall ahead of a forthcoming design-review application.
Holloway said the temple and an associated nunnery have been operating at the historic El Rancho Hotel at the corner of West Capitol Avenue and Merkley since 1992. He told commissioners the groups have been largely quiet historically but are preparing to be “more and more outgoing to the public” and will submit a design-review request for a new Buddhist temple at the property that will be on the commission agenda Aug. 21.
Holloway invited commissioners to tour the existing facilities and the planned location for the new building, and offered contact information and coordination through the temple and the property's school principal. He emphasized the need to avoid Brown Act issues and suggested commissioners visit individually or in groups of two to receive a hosted tour.
No commissioners asked questions during the public-comment period, and Holloway left contact details with staff for scheduling visits.
