The Forney ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the district's proposed tax rate for the upcoming school year after a presentation by the district's finance officer. John Chase, presenting the quarter and tax work, said the district received certified values in July and staff calculated the district's various statutory tax-rate measures before recommending the rate adopted at the June budget hearing.
Chase explained the district had calculated the maximum compressed maintenance-and-operations rate, the voter-approval rate and the "no new revenue" rate with Texas Education Agency inputs, and said the proposed rate is the same rate the board approved when it adopted the budget in June. He told the board that, with the adopted rate, the average resident should see a small decrease in the bill due chiefly to a larger homestead exemption applied this year.
Superintendent Dr. Terry Cherry said the flat rate supports district priorities while pacing with local growth and competitive pay for staff. After a brief exchange among trustees, a board member moved to adopt the rate as presented; the motion carried on a voice vote with all trustees saying "aye."
