At the Aug. 6 meeting the Leesburg Board of Architectural Review discussed the 2025 JRB (James R. B.) awards and whether to include the recently completed Hotel Berg (the Bird) in this year’s nominations.
Members said the Berg project demonstrated notable collaboration among owner, staff and the BAR during construction and that the project is materially complete now, making it eligible for recognition. Several members noted the importance of consistent cutoff practices across the four jurisdictions that select nominees and agreed to coordinate with Purcellville and Middleburg to allow equivalent nomination windows.
Members asked town staff to circulate the nomination packet to the BAR and to allow Middleburg time to complete its internal selection. The board’s discussion indicated consensus to advance the Hotel Berg nomination rather than postpone it another year.
No formal recorded roll-call motion was taken during the meeting; staff said they would circulate the group email and formalize the nomination process administratively.
