Clarkston plans pickleball grand opening, budgets for backup generators at town facilities

Council reported progress on several town facility projects and preliminary plans for public events.

The council said crews will apply the finishing coat to the new pickleball court and to the basketball court soon; new fencing and gates have been installed and two gates will provide access for the pickleball courts. The mayor proposed holding a grand-opening social in late August in place of the regular council meeting so residents can see the finished courts. "We will plan on an opening social for our pickleball court," the mayor said, adding the town will advertise the event via Facebook, the town website and the water-bill email list.

Separately, the council reported the town budget includes line items to evaluate and, if approved, install backup generators at the fire station and at town hall in case of power outages; staff are soliciting bids for those installations. The mayor said he is getting bids and expects to bring recommendations back to council when available.

The council also discussed control settings for court lighting so lights cannot be left on indefinitely; the system will limit when and how long lights stay on to reduce misuse and cost. No funding approval beyond solicitation of bids was recorded at the meeting.
