Neighborhood Sports celebrates growth of NFL Flag program; seeks continued town partnership

Inderleid said the league began with “barely over 200 kids” and reported 507 participants in the most recent spring season, a growth he characterized as ‘‘off the charts.’’ He described program features including preseason camps, fall and spring seasons, scholarships and outreach to families who can’t afford fees; he noted the national Every Kid Sports program as an additional source of grants for families.
The presenter praised town practice facilities and noted Bakersfield Park’s new lighting has helped. He described competitive opportunities for teams, including regional and national tournaments hosted by NFL-affiliated events, and announced plans to bring a state championship event to North Texas. Inderleid urged continued support as the league expands girls’-only divisions and explores potential use of future artificial-turf fields funded in a recent bond package.
Parks Board members thanked Inderleid and praised the program’s volunteer coaching structure and financial-assistance policies. Staff said Neighborhood Sports has been ‘‘easy to work with’’ and commended the partnership as the organization enters the final year of its current contract.
