Santa Rosa Council appoints Angela Conte and Scott Wimmer to housing authority posts

The Santa Rosa City Council on Aug. 5 appointed Angela Conte to the Housing Authority senior tenant commissioner seat and Scott Wimmer to the tenant commissioner at-large seat, voting unanimously.
The council held interviews earlier in the meeting with seven applicants for two tenant commissioner vacancies. Applicants described a mix of lived experience with the housing authority, professional backgrounds in real estate and social work, and volunteer and military service as reasons they wanted to serve. Angela Conte said she wanted to continue after serving “for the last couple of years,” adding that she’s “just now getting comfortable and familiar with the system.” Scott Wimmer, who said he has experience volunteering with Catholic Charities and working in mental health and construction trades, told the council he wanted to “help and serve” and bring practical experience to the commission.
Councilmembers nominated and then discussed candidates before making appointments. Councilmember Fleming and Councilmember Kripke (sometimes transcribed as Krupke) highlighted continuity and prior service in supporting Conte for the senior seat. Several councilmembers said Wimmer’s prior application and community service argued for his selection for the at-large seat. Councilmember Benuelos and others noted the number and quality of applicants and praised the applicant pool.
The motion put forward by Councilmember Benuelos nominated Angela Conte and Scott Wimmer for the two positions. The motion was seconded and carried by a recorded roll call: Rogers — aye; O'Krebski/Ocrepkie — aye; McDonald — aye; Fleming — yes; Benuelos — yes; Vice Mayor Alvarez — aye; Mayor Stapp — aye. The clerk recorded the outcome as unanimous.
Councilmembers and staff noted they received many applicants and said they appreciated the interest. No changes to terms were made at the meeting; staff had announced earlier that each two-year term would expire Aug. 5, 2027.
The council also briefly discussed the process for selecting which candidates qualified for the senior seat versus the at-large seat and took a procedural suggestion from the clerk to decide the senior representative first because fewer applicants are eligible for that seat.
The appointees will be added to the Housing Authority roster per the city’s appointment process; staff will notify the new commissioners and complete onboarding in line with standard city procedures.
