Commissioners approve abatement change order up to $5,862 and waive landfill fees for old event-center office work

Bannock County commissioners approved a procurement change order to abate asbestos and related materials from the old event-center office and waived landfill fees for the abated material.
Chief procurement officer Crystal (first name Shanda/Crystal in the packet) asked the board to approve a change order with Headwaters for abatement services submitted by Abatement Services in an amount not to exceed $5,862. Crystal said a certified asbestos supervisor is required for the work because of the listed square footage. She also asked the board to waive landfill fees for the abated material, which she estimated would be about one to two dumpsters of abated material.
Commissioners moved to approve the requested abatement change order, authorize signatures once the change order is prepared, and waive county landfill fees associated with the abated material. One commissioner noted the county had previously discussed higher cost estimates and commended staff and contractors for narrowing the price. ‘‘They've done a fantastic job,’’ a commissioner said during the discussion.
The board approved the motion by voice vote. Procurement staff will request a formal change order from Headwaters and return a prepared document for signature; the timetable in the discussion indicated the change order could be ready within days.
