The Public Art Committee unanimously approved a phase 2 mural project, titled “Creative Seeds,” for Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences and authorized a modest budget increase to $15,500 to accommodate the larger wall and the required boom lift. The mural is intended to complement an earlier Colson mural on the same campus and to highlight children and creativity.
Artist Caitlin (Swirly) presented designs and said the school community had provided input; staff said the principal supported the concept. Committee members recommended additional student involvement where practical. The expanded concept requires a boom lift; the artist and staff explained the increased budget covers lift rental and associated costs. The motion to approve the concept and the adjusted budget passed unanimously.
Staff said they will conduct further public outreach with the Rosemary District community and the school and will return to the committee only if substantial changes arise from that outreach.
