The Sarasota Planning Board approved Adjustment 25‑ADP‑08 to permit two monument ground signs for the commercial property at 1600 Main Street, subject to staff conditions and the proffers submitted by the applicant.
McKayla King, attorney with Icard Merrill, presented the application on behalf of Trust Companies America. The applicant sought approval for a single‑sided 5'x8' monument sign at the northwest corner and a double‑sided 3'x5' sign at the southwest corner, with final locations to be verified during sign permitting. King said the applicant added two proffers since the prior hearing: a landscape plan "in substantial accordance" with the attached exhibit and a directional graphic on the Main/Orange corner sign directing patrons to the commercial parking lot entrance off Orange Avenue. King also noted coordination with a nurseryman and the city arborist on foundation placement to avoid root damage to a nearby oak.
Board members asked about foundations and tree roots. Applicant representative Colin Caldwell and the property owner said the sign foundation would be engineered and the applicant will coordinate with the city arborist; the applicant also agreed to work toward avoiding damage to the oak and to use a pylon/foundation approach if feasible. City staff recommended approval and noted the application met the code criteria. The motion to approve the adjustment and to record the applicant's proffers passed 4–1 (Mister Neuhaus, Mister Christie, Mister Claremont and Mister LeMay voted yes; Mister Salem voted no).
