Laguna Beach mayor wins demolition derby at Orange County Fairgrounds; event raised funds for CHOC Hospital

“I was very nervous, going into it because my goal was just not to get injured,” Renogy said, adding that once the event began he used the speed and weight of his car to outmaneuver opponents. He said judges determined the winner by counting figure eights and that he received a plaque that he plans to display at City Hall.
Tom Johnson, the program host in the recorded conversation, noted moments in the video shown during the interview in which two Newport Beach council members collided and were eliminated early.
