Members of the Struthers City Council discussed the resignation of council member Ron Carceli and whether to pursue a censure if he seeks to return, during the council’s Oct. 8, 2025 caucus meeting.
Council members said Ron Carceli “submitted a letter of resignation from the second ward council seat, for the rest of the year.” Several council members said they had spoken with Carceli and expressed caution about any future steps he might take.
A council member said she had drafted a motion to censure and planned to bring it forward if Carceli were to return to the council at the start of the next year. Other council members pushed back, saying censure should not be used to single out an individual and noting Carceli was not currently a council member. One participant characterized bringing such a motion while the member is absent as “poor taste.”
Council members referenced a recent newspaper article about trash bags and questioned whether that coverage constituted wrongdoing; no criminal allegation or formal charge was presented during the discussion. Members also noted they had the option to pursue disciplinary measures if a sitting member’s conduct warranted it, but they did not take formal action at the caucus.
The council did not advance or vote on a censure at the meeting. Several members said the topic would be revisited only if Carceli returned to the council or if new information emerged. For now, the council moved on to other business.
