Town staff pursuing building security upgrades and state cyber training grant; short-term office moves planned

Town staff updated the board on building-security and IT items Aug. 25, including a pending server installation and a state cybersecurity grant for staff training.
Building security: staff said the vendor has not yet shipped the new server; delivery was expected in 7–10 business days and is now past the 11th business day. Staff described plans for a front-lobby kiosk (an iPad/Teams link) to allow staff interaction with visitors and a locked elevator so visitors access upstairs only when escorted. The change will require new front-desk workflows and consideration for deliveries.
Office reconfiguration: to free space in the town hall, staff plans to split two larger upstairs offices (the fire chief’s and HR director’s) to add at least three workspaces. The fire chief has already relocated to the fire station. Staff is also exploring using the Sanford Road property or a park building as an interim Public Works office; staff will evaluate HVAC and water service costs for those options.
Cybersecurity grant: the town applied for state cybersecurity assistance; the application sought $42,000 for replacement computers but the award granted $11,895 to pay for cybersecurity training for employees. Staff plans to bring a resolution accepting the grant on the voting meeting agenda and will sign grant documents by Sept. 1 to secure the funds.
No formal votes were taken on these items at the workshop; staff requested authorization to proceed with vendor follow-up and to present grant-acceptance language at the voting meeting.
