Eagan swears in newly promoted Police Sergeant Jacob Colson; council adopts consent agenda

Eagan on Aug. 19 swore in a newly promoted police sergeant and completed a brief council meeting that included adoption of the agenda and the consent agenda.
Sergeant Jacob Colson took the oath of office in a recognition ceremony at the start of the regular City Council meeting. Chief Ngoo, who administered remarks before the oath, said the promotions highlight the department’s leadership bench and thanked Colson’s family for attending. “These nights are really important to the officer and their families,” Chief Ngoo said.
Colson was sworn in after a short formal pinning ceremony. According to remarks at the meeting, he began his law-enforcement career with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office and joined the Eagan Police Department in 2014. Chief Ngoo told the council Colson has served as a detective, been a member of the department SWAT team and worked as a field training officer. During the oath Colson recited the statutory pledge, including support for the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Minnesota.
Mayor (name not specified) thanked Colson and his family and noted the presence of many colleagues from the department. “It’s a pleasure to see them, and a great reminder of how important the supportive family is to the work that all of our officers do,” the mayor said.
Council actions at the meeting were procedural. Councilman Blackcomb moved to adopt the evening’s agenda and the motion carried. Later in the meeting Councilmember Hansen moved to adopt the balance of the consent agenda; that motion also carried. Following brief announcements and no public hearings, the council moved to adjourn.
The council noted that, earlier this year, the department promoted three other officers to sergeant — Sergeant Streeplin, Sergeant Meaden and Sergeant Copp — and the ceremony placed Colson among that group of supervisors. No ordinances, public hearings or substantive policy items were on the agenda for this meeting.
