Chatham Education Foundation offers $1,000 classroom grants; United Way highlights back-to-school supports

Brittany Sandifer, with the Chatham Education Foundation, told educators at a convocation that teachers can apply online for classroom grants of up to $1,000 and that the foundation’s Chatham Reads program can help restock classroom libraries.
The grants are intended to fund “something creative and innovative in your classroom with your students,” Sandifer said. She also noted the foundation has been supplying resources directly to district teachers for more than 30 years and that community donations were available at the event as school supplies.
Carlos Lima, executive director of United Way of Chatham County, spoke at the same convocation and described the organization’s broader work connecting community supports to schools. “Together, we are building a healthier, stronger community for everyone,” Lima said, and invited educators to visit the United Way table to discuss how the organizations’ work intersects.
The Chatham Education Foundation directed educators to its website, chathameducationfoundation.org, and social media for grant applications and program details. Sandifer said staff can apply on the site for the teaching grants and use Chatham Reads to replenish classroom book collections; the foundation also distributed donated school supplies at the convocation.
