Council selects Burlington Junction Railway to operate Lincoln Way rail park; company pledges safety and local hiring

The Clinton City Council on Aug. 12 voted to select Burlington Junction Railway as the third‑party switching and railroad operator for the Lincoln Way Industrial Rail Park.
Councilmember Davis moved the resolution selecting Burlington Junction from nine applicants; the motion passed by roll call. Representatives from Burlington Junction introduced themselves, described the company’s history and scope and said safety and local hiring are priorities as operations begin. Peter Hoth, who identified himself as a family owner and corporate development representative, said the company operates in multiple Midwest locations and expects to recruit local staff (engineers and conductors) and provide training; he estimated the operation could support at least three full‑time positions initially.
Council discussion noted that this selection authorizes staff to begin contract negotiations; council members said they look forward to a long-term partnership and emphasized safety, economic development and the need to finalize contractual terms before operations begin. Staff said Burlington Junction will also be responsible for maintenance of public rail track at the rail park under the forthcoming agreement.
The council adopted the resolution; staff will return with a negotiated contract for council approval.
