Planning administrator: six town halls and 193 online surveys inform Coffey County comprehensive plan draft

Planning and Zoning Administrator Heidi Harris updated the Coffey County Commission Monday on the comprehensive plan outreach effort and next steps.
Harris said staff and a consultant completed six town halls in July—Lebo, Gridley, LeRoy, ("Zoos Strong"/likely a misspoken place name), Burlington and one additional meeting—and reported attendance numbers by location. "We officially gone through all of our town halls. We did six of them," Harris said, and she provided site-by-site counts and a total participation figure.
Harris summarized participation as about 235 citizens attending the six meetings and said 193 online surveys had been completed as of July 30. She said the consultant will combine the town hall and on‑site materials to produce a draft comprehensive plan. That draft will be presented to the planning board for review and recommendation and then forwarded to the county commission for a public hearing and potential adoption; Harris said she expects the public hearing process to begin early this fall.
Commissioners asked about redundancy checks for survey responses and display of survey results on the county website; Harris said the consultant will look for redundancies and that, pending permission from county IT staff, she hopes to post summarized survey results and comments online so residents may view aggregated responses.
Harris said she expects the planning board to meet multiple times on the draft and that commissioners will have an opportunity to review proposed revisions prior to final action. No ordinance or adoption vote occurred at Monday's session; the item was reported as informational and a draft with public‑hearing dates will follow.
The update drew brief discussion from commissioners who said turnout and the geographic spread of comments indicated broad engagement across the county.
