Council ratifies DDA’s pick for downtown director; Nate Mack introduced

The Berkley City Council on July 21 approved an employment contract for Nate Mack to serve as director of the Downtown Development Authority (motion M6025). The DDA had unanimously recommended Mack at its July 9 meeting; council approval completes the city-side employment step.
City Manager Van Vleck described the DDA search and interim coverage by Jennifer Finney and summarized Mack’s background: executive director for the DDA and economic development director in South Lyon, development coordinator for the Michigan Theater of Jackson, and experience with facade and sign-incentive programs. Mack said he is “very excited to come to Berkley and be the next DDA director,” and cited familiarity with the Main Street approach.
Councilmembers welcomed Mack and thanked interim director Finney and the DDA board for their work. Several members encouraged early attention to the paused facade program and the farmers market; Mack said those are priorities he has addressed in prior roles.
The vote on M6025 passed by roll call with one councilmember voting no. Council staff said the DDA reimburses the city's general fund for costs associated with the position and that the role remains a merit-system city employee.
