Council OKs Slows Berkeley liquor-license transfer; owners plan fall opening

The Berkley City Council on July 21 approved the local transfer of a Class C liquor license to Slows Berkeley LLC for a new restaurant at 3087 12 Mile Road (motion M5925). The motion passed on a roll call vote; Councilmember Black voted no.
City Clerk Victoria Mitchell said applicable staff circulated and unanimously approved the application. Representatives Terry Perrone and Josh Keeler told council the team is targeting a September opening but acknowledged it could slip into early October. “We're targeting, as well as early in September as we can,” one applicant said.
Perrone and Keeler described plans to activate a second-floor room for private and community events, ranging from small trainings to larger gatherings, and said they plan discounts for military and local travelers similar to their Detroit locations. Councilmembers expressed enthusiasm about the addition to downtown and encouraged staff to streamline outdated local requirements: one councilmember suggested repealing a legacy ordinance that slows the licensing process.
Public comments at the meeting were uniformly positive; residents said they look forward to additional dining options downtown.
The motion to approve the liquor-license transfer, M5925, passed with the majority of councilmembers voting yes; the clerk recorded the roll call. The applicants said they will continue construction and permitting steps and meet with contractors to accelerate opening.
