Redevelopment director reports streetscape delays, John Purdue block progress and Dec. 2 opening for Forky Boulevard

Dennis, the redevelopment commission’s director, reported progress and delays on several local projects at the Oct. 23, 2025 meeting.
Dennis said work on the downtown streetscape is delayed while private utilities — Comcast and MetroNet — remove lines and poles. He said crews hope the poles will be removed “today or tomorrow,” after which work can proceed.
Dennis said construction on the John Purdue blocks on Second Street is moving “along very nicely.” He told commissioners that Forky Boulevard is still scheduled to open Dec. 2, though additional work will return in the spring.
Dennis also said the commission will review its 2026 budget at the November meeting, which he said would be held on the third Thursday of the month; the commission must approve its budget earlier than in prior years. He reported that a tax abatement the commission recommended was passed by Lafayette City Council and is moving forward.
Commissioners asked for clarifications about timing for the streetscape work and the future use of properties at 601 and 605 Main Street; Dennis reiterated that 601 is planned for eventual inclusion in a log center but that 605 currently has no particular plans.
