County updates: E911 center, jail building plans and fire truck procurement

County staff updated the commission on several capital and facilities items: the county’s E911 building construction, scaled plans for a new detention facility, and progress on acquiring a new fire truck.

The E911 project has advanced to above‑grade construction; county staff reported walls and rebar in block filled with concrete are in place and contractors were working to get the building weather‑tight before winter. "They got the walls up ... they'll be putting a roof on it by mid November," a county official said.

On the county building project (detention facility), staff said the final design was scaled down to meet budget constraints but will accommodate current bed counts with some room for modest future growth. The project originally carried a larger estimate and was reduced to match available funding; further expansions could be added later, officials said.

On vehicle procurement, finance staff have signed a letter of intent to purchase a fire truck from a federal source contract to lock the bid price. Staff said a contract signature was expected soon and the county planned to place the order once the contract was finalized, preventing exposure to vendor price increases.

Commissioners asked for timelines and noted the importance of securing funding and contracts to avoid cost escalation. No formal procurement votes were recorded in committee at this meeting; staff were directed to proceed with contract finalization and return with details if additional budget approvals are required.
