Brookhaven's fire chief reported Oct. 6 that the borough is finalizing a partnership to place an ALS (advanced life-support) paramedic chase car into service with Rocky Run Fire Company and local partners.
The chief said Rocky Run obtained the required licensure to purchase controlled drugs the chase car will carry and that the borough and the fire company had prepared a lease/user agreement for a vehicle the fire company purchased as partners in the program. “We plan on being up in service in November,” the chief said, noting that the borough hopes to present a contract for council review by the next meeting.
Under the proposed arrangement the chase car will operate as a paramedic-level first response unit that supplements ambulance transport resources in the region; the chief described coordination with neighboring providers (Aspen, Riddle/Swarthmore and others) to maintain layered coverage and backups. He emphasized the borough's ambulance-subscription program, explaining how the subscription helps protect residents from large transport bills and that subscription benefits will be honored across partner ambulance providers.
On ancillary ambulance matters, the chief reported monthly ambulance call statistics and urged residents to consider the subscription product as a low-cost protection against out-of-pocket transport charges.
