Board adopts two-year collective bargaining agreement with Food Service Association

The Burnsville Public School District Board of Education approved the proposed revisions and readopted unchanged language in the 2023–2025 collective bargaining agreement with the Burnsville Food Service Association.
Stacy Sovine, executive director of administrative services, presented the agreement and said bargaining began in July and concluded after two meetings on Aug. 14. Sovine told the board the contract removed dated language, updated uniform stipends, added support language for second-language speakers in the department, and revised an attendance incentive and benefits-matching language.
Sovine said the two-year increased cost to the district is just over $250,000 and that the two-year package totals a 7.12% increase. She also characterized the schedule increase as equivalent to a “2 and 2” settlement.
Director Ault asked whether the attendance incentive — which can include conversions to a 403(b) matching arrangement — could create pressure for staff to work while ill. Sovine said the incentive applies to use of multiple leave types and that protected leaves such as FMLA and bereavement are exempt; she described the incentive as an additional benefit for employees who use less leave, while confirming that employees retain their negotiated leave benefits.
Director Ault moved the motion to approve the agreement; Director Mickelson seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
