Roof, septic repairs and network upgrades highlighted in support-services briefing

Mister Fisher, director of business services and technology, briefed the board on facilities and technology work, including an urgent roof replacement at Carver Circle, septic-field work at Pine Ridge, completion of an E-rate–funded network upgrade at the high school, and continued testing of safety-alert systems.
Fisher said crews discovered a hole in a section of the Carver Circle roof and that materials have been ordered; the quote for replacement work was "just over $49,000," he said, and the district will pay from its plant/splice fund. Fisher said the replacement is permanent (a full replacement for the affected section) and work should begin once materials arrive.
On Pine Ridge, Fisher said the existing septic field behind the portables cannot accept more flow and that a new field will be installed toward the bus-parking area. He said the district secured the required health-department permit and that the project will involve installing roughly 1,200 feet of new field lines in a different location connected to the existing tank. Board members discussed tree removal, root intrusion mitigation and regular pumping; Fisher said the contract for septic and detention-pond maintenance allows scheduled pumping and that the district would work to limit future root problems.
Fisher also reported completion of an e-rate–funded network upgrade at Harris County High School — upgraded wiring, new wireless access points and licensing were installed and the district will receive reimbursement through the e-rate process. On campus safety systems, Fisher said the Syntegix alerts and a new intercom module had been deployed and staff were continuing testing; he reported the system had generated mostly staff alerts and a few student medical or behavioral alerts districtwide and that drills had identified minor issues being corrected.
No formal board action was taken on facility-repair work at the Oct. 2 meeting; Fisher said cost details and timing would be shared as they are finalized.
