Board approves Burnsville High band trip to Malta for February 2026

The Burnsville Public School District Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a final application for an international field trip by the Burnsville High School band.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Chris Belmont introduced the item and Emily Najjar Field, the high school vocal music teacher, presented final itinerary and roster details provided by Gateway Tour Managers. The approved travel dates are Feb. 14–20, 2026.
Najjar Field said the district and the tour company held informational meetings and that the tour managers discuss travel expectations, including possible long layovers and cancellations. She told the board staff chaperones’ expenses are covered through the tour company; parent chaperones who accompany their children pay their own way.
“Expectations around travel do address that these sort of things can happen, and we do also address . . . how to manage ourselves on a large trip like this,” Najjar Field said.
Director Ault moved the motion to approve and Director Anderson seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Board documents submitted with the application included the complete itinerary and student roster; Najjar Field said the band and orchestra teachers were performing a concert at the school during the meeting and represented the larger music department’s participation in the trip.
