MSD Wabash County reports high third-grade pass rates; district wins IDOE robotics grant

District leaders told the board Aug. 26 that MSD Wabash County recorded strong third-grade pass rates on state assessments and that the district has won a state robotics grant for a third consecutive year.
A district curriculum official said Sharp Creek Elementary had a 100% pass rate among third-graders who took the assessment; Southwood Elementary had a 98.2% pass rate. Officials said the district ranked among the top four public school districts in Indiana on the measure for that cohort. The official noted that students with severe cognitive impairments who take alternate assessments are excluded from the reported pass-rate percentages.
The board also heard that the district was awarded an Indiana Department of Education robotics grant totaling about $66,000 to support robotics fields, parts, travel and registration. The superintendent and staff said the grant is reimbursable through the state and typically requires local matching or upfront payment before reimbursement.
Staff noted outside donations and support for career-technical programs: Stoops Training Academy donated four engines, ROC Fabrication donated welding materials and Larry Watson donated two welding helmets to support hands-on classes.
District officials attributed the test results to focused literacy work, teacher professional development, and materials investment over recent years. They said staff will continue to look for curriculum supports for grades 6-8 and monitor scores next year.
