Jennings County staff reported that the Indiana Department of Education has adopted PowerSchool's Special Programs module for managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and the district is still moving existing records into the system.
District staff said some special-education teachers are manually uploading prior IEPs into PowerSchool and the district is providing substitute coverage and time to help teachers complete the work. The state issued "shell IEPs" over the weekend, the presenter said, which include accommodations for checkpoint testing and gave staff some breathing room while uploads continue. The presenter described the transition as not as smooth as desired but said the district is actively supporting teachers.
Staff advised parents that if they receive a notification about a newly created IEP in PowerSchool it may reflect the district uploading a previously accepted IEP into the state system. Parents with questions were directed to contact their child's teacher of record, the building principal, district staff named Mandy, or the presenter listed in the meeting record.
No formal board action was recorded on the PowerSchool update; the district is continuing the migration and supporting staff with substitutes and other resources to complete the transition.
