Cerro Gordo County supervisors approve canvas of Swaledale special election

Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors members at a special session Sept. 16 approved Resolution 20 25 57 to formally canvas the results of a Swaledale special election held the previous Tuesday.
The action came after county election staff told supervisors the Swaledale city councils had twice failed to appoint two required officials within the statutory posting and quorum requirements, and the 60-day window for those appointments elapsed, prompting the county to call a special election.
County election staff reviewed the election-night tablet scanner report and absentee files for the board. The election summary showed 18 votes cast in the contest. Two write-in votes were recorded; county staff reported the absentee count as zero and that an absentee-board tally of the two write-ins matched the scanner report.
"So I would move to pass Resolution 20 25 57 for the canvas of the Swaledale special election. Everything matches," said Supervisor (Speaker 2) before making the motion to approve.
A second motion was made and the board voted unanimously to adopt the resolution. The motion language on the record stated the canvass found the reported totals to match the precinct and absentee reports. The meeting record lists three affirmative votes; no no-votes or abstentions were recorded.
Following the vote the board moved to other routine business and adjourned. The special session convened at 10:00 a.m. and the chair announced adjournment at 10:04 a.m.
