The Fort Worth City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Edgardo (Eddie) Garcia as chief of police and swore him into office during the council meeting on Sept. 16, 2025.
Council members from across the dais welcomed Garcia and asked him to prioritize both strong policing and community trust. "We believe in making sure [officers] are fully funded ... but as well as bring accountability to the city of Fort Worth," Council Member Nettles said during the remarks before the swearing-in.
