Early Learning Center board reports improved communication with parents, full inspections and 23 enrolled children

Nell Barnicot, president of the Early Learning Center (ELC) board, told the council Sept. 17 the board has launched Brightwheel, an app that allows teachers to send daily reports and photos to parents, and she reported that the ELC passed its annual licensing, fire marshal and life-safety inspections with no deficiencies.
"The app has been a huge success, and parents attending our most recent Sept. 10 board meeting shared unanimous enthusiasm for the app," Barnicot said. The app will also let administration send newsletters, calendars and meeting agendas to families.
Barnicot said the program has 23 children enrolled for the start of the 2025–26 school year and that the board continues periodic surveying of parents to identify improvements. She said the board welcomed a new interim treasurer with nonprofit and financial experience and that the ELC plans community fundraising, including an annual toy-boat fundraiser scheduled for the coming Monday.
The board president and the director are continuing outreach to parents and the town and said they will keep the council informed of operating and governance progress.
