The New Shoreham Town Council on Sept. 17 voted on a series of procedural and administrative matters including a closed-session instruction to the town solicitor, the sealing of minutes and permission to apply for a recreational grant to build pickleball courts.
In closed session the council unanimously directed town solicitor James Callahan to file a motion to modify a 02/2018 consent order for the Thomas property because the as-built site plan differs from the plan contained in the prior consent agreement. After returning to open session the council voted to seal the minutes that recorded the closed-session actions.
The council voted to accept correspondence from the Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) as a received public notice and agreed to place discussion of the CRMC matter on a future agenda for fuller review.
On administrative items the council:
- Appointed Katie Cass to the Conservation Commission (term expiring 12/25). The motion passed by voice vote.
- Set a public hearing date of Oct. 15 for proposed amendments to the town noise ordinance. The motion to set the hearing passed by voice vote.
- Approved a proclamation honoring the Rhode Island State Police’s 100 years of service.
- Granted permission to apply for a state recreational (Green) grant to build three pickleball courts at Ball O'Brien Park; the council approved the request to seek the grant and hold the required public hearing.
- Moved to accept the consent agenda, which included the CRMC public notice and meeting minutes, by voice vote.
Votes recorded at the meeting were routine roll/voice votes; specific individual tallies were not recorded in the transcript for most items.
The council did not adopt a resolution to formally approve the Safe Streets and Roads for All safety action plan at this meeting; staff and the external consultant presented the plan and said they would return with a resolution if the council wished to adopt it in a future meeting.
The meeting opened and closed with the regular procedural motions to convene and adjourn.
