Salinas staff to delete one unrenewed special curb marking; most businesses renewed

City staff told the Salinas Traffic and Transportation Commission that the annual renewal process for special curb markings resulted in one deletion: Agave Auto Sales at 714 East Market Street, which staff said did not respond to mailed notices and could not be reached by phone.

The item was presented as informational; no commission vote was required. Staff described the renewal process for special curb markings as a three-notice procedure — two mailed notices followed by an in-person contact — and said most businesses renewed and paid the renewal fee.

Commissioners asked clarifying questions about fee structures, why some entries show a $0 fee, and where the public could access a consolidated list of special curb markings. Staff said fee waivers reflected existing resolutions in individual cases (for example, for some nonprofits or governmental entities) and that there is not yet a central public map of all city parking availability but that creating one could be explored.

Staff also said enforcement of special curb markings is typically complaint-driven and handled through Salinas Connect or direct requests to city staff; parking enforcement responds to reported violations.

The presentation noted that markings are color-coded with timed durations (blue, white, yellow and green) and that business-specific quantities vary by stall but that fees are assessed per stall. Staff closed by saying they would maintain and refresh the markings that were renewed and that the change affecting Agave Auto Sales was the only deletion in this renewal cycle.
