The finding came after a public hearing in which city staff described a proposal to remove multiple awnings, replace a door opening on Emerson Street to a full‑height entrance, add pendant lights in alcoves, introduce a backlit corner sign, and paint entry alcoves a golden yellow to match awning fabric. Amanda Bridges, a senior architect and project manager at Brereton, represented the applicant and said the gallery operator Hauser & Wirth will include a bookstore and café and is aiming for a “welcoming” street presence that preserves historic elements while accommodating large artwork deliveries.
