The council voted unanimously to adopt the 2023 National Electrical Code and the 2024 International Code series (including the International Building Code and related model codes) with the North Central Texas Council of Governments' regional amendments and a small number of Flower Mound-specific modifications.
Building official Joelle Hanley explained the town updates model codes every three years to reflect the current published cycles; regional amendments developed through the COG process are intended to harmonize local changes across neighboring jurisdictions. Flower Mound's local modifications are mostly administrative (jurisdiction name, permit-expires timeframes) or mirror the fire department's local fire-code thresholds, along with a local grease trap calculation used in the sewer system.
The council held a public hearing (no public speakers) and adopted the ordinance by unanimous vote.
