The North Pocono School District Board of Education on Aug. 13 approved multiple routine personnel items, financial disbursements and facilities contracts as part of its consent and business agendas. Most motions passed unanimously 7-0. Key actions included the purchase of a food-service van, acceptance of a base bid for middle school roof restoration, and authorization to request proposals for the high school roof.
Major contract and procurement actions
The board approved the purchase of a 2014 Ford E-150 van from Pocono Transportation for $7,500 to be used solely for food service; the purchase will be paid from the district’s food services fund. Finance-related motions also included approval of financial reports and payment of general fund bills and capital project fund disbursements; those motions were recorded as passing 7-0.
The board accepted a base bid from Weatherproofing Technologies Inc. not to exceed $1,977,669.65 for roof restoration at North Pocono Middle School. The pricing is based on a Keystone Purchasing Network contract (KPN-a-2002-202012-04) and the project will be funded by the capital projects fund. Board members authorized administration to request proposals for roof restoration at the high school.
Personnel and student-related routine actions
The board approved leaves, status changes, appointments, extracurricular volunteer appointments, student placements and agreements, and authorized drivers for transportation; each of these motions was approved by recorded voice or motion counts and passed 7-0 in the meeting minutes.
Public participation and other items
During the public comment period the board read one online comment from Robert Cagriga of Madison Township raising a concern about North Pocono’s policy that pre-K students are not eligible for parochial bus transportation even when older siblings ride the same bus; the assistant superintendent indicated the district’s policy does not provide pre-K transportation. Superintendent and administrators also announced back-to-school events, parent portal opening on Aug. 15 and the first day of school Aug. 21.
