North Pocono board appoints Lynn Hurd to fill Region 3 vacancy

The North Pocono School District Board of Education appointed Dr. Lynn Hurd on Aug. 13 to fill the Region 3 seat vacated by a resignation, voting 6-1 to install Hurd through Nov. 30, 2025.
The board opened the meeting to two candidates for the vacancy, Dr. Lynn Hurd and Kimberly Mead, who each addressed the board before formal nominations. Board president Paul Powell said the board would nominate alphabetically and stop when a candidate secured a majority of five votes. Powell moved to appoint Hurd; the motion was seconded by board member Tom Bracey. The roll call showed one dissenting vote from board member Ms. Foda; the motion passed six-one.
Judge Adcock administered the oath of office after the vote. Powell told the meeting, "Please note in the minutes, that Dr. Hurd is choosing to abstain on our motions moving forward for this meeting," and the board recorded Hurd’s abstention for the remainder of the session. Powell said the new director "will start active voting when we reconvene in September." The appointment term ends Nov. 30, 2025, and the normal electoral process will determine the seat thereafter.
