Oro Valley council bans parking on Moore Road west of La Cañada to curb truck stop behavior

The Oro Valley Town Council on Sept. 3 voted 7-0 to post a no-parking zone on Moore Road west of La Cañada Drive, a measure residents and homeowners associations said is needed to stop large trucks and vehicles using the right-of-way as an informal parking area.
Vice Mayor Barrett said the issue grew after the construction of a roundabout and grading created a wide soft shoulder that attracted long-term parking. “This location has really escalated to the point that it's constant,” Barrett said during council discussion. Rancho Vistoso HOA board member Matt Wood told the council he often hears complaints about 18-wheelers parked on Moore Road and urged approval. “This is continuing and we really have heard from a lot of our members that really wish something could be done,” Wood said.
Town staff and council discussed the long-term solution of curb and sidewalk installation that will come with future development; in the meantime, Barrett said the town could remove the informal parking by posting no-parking on the south side for roughly 1,250 feet west toward King Air. The motion as moved limited the restriction to the south side; Council Member Green seconded and the council approved the change 7-0.
Council and staff characterized the action as a near-term safety and neighborhood character measure; staff said the long-term plan includes sidewalks and curbing that will remove space used for informal parking once development occurs. The council asked staff to install signage and enforce the restriction.
