Emigration Canyon canvass board accepts county-certified primary results; Robert and Jacob advance

The City of Emigration Canyon Board of Canvass voted to accept the county-certified results of the recent primary election and closed the canvass, board members said during a brief meeting.

The action formalizes the county-provided totals that show candidate Robert received 197 votes and candidate Jacob received 116 votes, making them the top two finishers who will advance to the general election. Candidates Zachary and Dylan received 53 and 14 votes, respectively, according to the totals presented to the board.

Diana, elections staff, told the board that canvass staff had audited both paper ballots and electronic records. “We audited both physical ballots and the electronic machine stuff,” Diana said, summarizing the county’s post-election checks.

The board was told the city’s voter turnout for the primary was 33.9% of registered voters, a comparatively high rate among neighboring jurisdictions. Staff reported four ballots had been challenged during processing; three were cured and counted, and one challenge was not resolved and therefore that ballot was not counted.

During the meeting the presiding officer asked for a motion to adopt a resolution accepting the county’s results; a board member moved and another board member seconded. The board conducted a roll-call vote and recorded ayes from the named members present; the resolution was approved. Board members then signed the certificate of canvass and moved to close the meeting.

Beyond approving the resolution, no additional actions or investigations were directed. The county remains the official source of the certified returns, and the board’s vote accepted those figures as reported.
