Emigration Canyon canvass accepts county primary totals; two candidates advance

The Emigration Canyon Board of Canvass voted Tuesday to accept primary-election results as submitted by the county and certified that two candidates will advance to the November general election.
Diana, an elections staff member who presented county data to the board, told members candidate Robert received 197 votes and candidate Jacob (also referenced in the record as Jake) received 116 votes; those two finished first and second and "will be the ones that go on to the general election," she said. Two other candidates received 53 and 14 votes, respectively.
"You guys actually had one of the higher voter turnouts," Diana said, reporting a 33.9% turnout for registered voters in Emigration Canyon. She told the board that county staff audited both paper and electronic records and that the canvass showed generally clean results.
Diana reported four total ballots were challenged during county processing; "only one was not cured," she said, meaning one challenged ballot was not resolved and was not counted.
Board members moved to approve a resolution accepting the county's results. The motion was seconded and approved by roll call; board members recorded in the roll call as voting aye were Joe Smoka, David Brinch, Catherine Harris, Jennifer Hawks and Robert Pinot. The board then moved and seconded a motion to close the canvass and recorded consensus approval with "aye" votes.
The county-provided paperwork includes detailed vote totals and a signed resolution for the board; staff asked members to sign the resolution document, which the board may keep or display if they choose. Diana said there were no other outstanding issues for Emigration Canyon from the primary canvass.
The certified results advance the two top vote-getters to the general election; the transcript did not record a date for county certification beyond the board's acceptance or further procedural steps.
