Planning staff demonstrated a web‑based story map for Sherman’s Creek at the August meeting, showing existing access points, historic and recreational features and proposed greenway elements. The map is an interactive “story map” that scrolls through points on the creek and supplies photographs and brief descriptions; staff said the digital format allows linking to state and nonprofit resources and can be expanded incrementally.
Alexa (GIS/staff) prepared the map, and staff proposed adding different icons to represent bridges, trailheads, historic sites and access points so the map is easier to read. Commission members suggested adding heritage content — covered bridges, historic rail and charcoal‑making sites — by linking to Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and other existing resources rather than recreating material. Staff said the initial effort was done on a limited budget and that the project can grow as partners contribute source material.
The commission did not take a formal vote on the story map at this meeting; staff said they will bring icon suggestions to a future meeting and will provide a link to the story map for public review.
