Council approves $25,000 from downtown fund to boost Bluegrass & Barbecue budget to $100,000

Pryor Creek — The Pryor Creek City Council approved an EDTA recommendation to transfer $25,000 from the downtown tax fund (Fund 68) to raise the Bluegrass and Barbecue Festival budget from $75,000 to $100,000, council members said at the Aug. 19 meeting.
Adam Anderson of the EDTA told the council that the downtown sales-tax–derived fund had roughly $600,000 in the account and that the transfer would consolidate previously separate festival expenses into a single budget line. EDMTA staff said last year’s festival required additional EDTA spending of about $13,000 for insurance, overtime and other items; the additional transfer would absorb those items into the main festival budget this year.
The EDTA also reported a number of line-item cost increases versus last year — for example, stage and sound costs and portable restroom costs — and said organizers had engaged a talent booker and marketing contractors. Staff noted that, to better track the festival’s fiscal impact, this year vendors will receive a specific sales-tax permit so event-related sales can be more easily identified.
Council members voted in favor of the transfer. No additional conditions or matching requirements were imposed at the meeting.
