Harris said Clear Creek County’s detention center recently passed a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) audit by the U.S. Department of Justice, an outcome he called “a big deal” that reflected extensive work to improve detention policies and inmate care. The sheriff also said the jail is pursuing expanded mental‑health services for all inmates and preparing to comply with the Colorado Jail Standards Act that goes into effect in 2026; one deputy was noted as attending the Red Rocks Academy for detention certification.
