Council members raised a separately reported safety issue: a power pole located at the corner of a driveway approach owned by a resident identified as Celia, which residents said has been struck multiple times.
Council members discussed whether the special service district funds could pay for moving the pole or for shifting a driveway approach; staff cautioned there are limits on how far poles can be moved and that costs and utility company rules would apply. The town’s service district representative said that if the work is within the road approach the service district could likely cover it.
Staff described discovery of an old, buried drainage culvert while relocating power poles; drilling exposed flowing water and the indication that an historic pipe culvert now is missing, which has redirected surface water under the park and into low areas. Staff proposed piping the drainage in a concrete pipe from the discovery point to the highway with collection boxes, which would close an open inlet and reduce flood and liability risk. Council members agreed the drainage piping could be added to the project list and that it is appropriate to address flooding and potential liability concerns.
Council members said they will finalize and file the project list next week for consideration by the service district. No formal vote was recorded at the meeting on project approvals; staff will submit the prioritized list to the district for planning and budgeting.
