Student advisors launch county student portal and prepare joint board discussion on Sept. 24

Landon, representing the student advisors to the board, described a soft launch of a new student portal — browardschools.com/students — and outlined the student engagement initiative at the Aug. 20 workshop.
Student leaders said the portal was a “studentized” first iteration: simplified language, reorganized links and resources informed by student surveys and Speak Up / Speak Out sessions. Landon said the site will be updated seasonally to match student needs and that staff and marketing supported the rollout.
Student advisors also announced a joint student‑board discussion scheduled for Sept. 24; trustees will receive a link to propose topics and the format will follow a model used in May. Landon said the county will host a kickoff training for student designees at high schools and that students will begin serving on school board committees within weeks, with the wellness committee appointment still pending.
Board members acknowledged the initiative and asked staff to coordinate student participation in policy conversations — including Policy 8020 and revisions coming to the board — to ensure student perspectives inform district decisions. No board action was required at the workshop.
