Bangor council chair named to state property tax task force; seeks council support

Council Chair Pelletier announced at the Aug. 11 workshop that the state legislature has created a task force to study the property tax burden and potential mitigation options for owner‑occupied residences, and that she had been asked to serve as an appointed member representing towns with populations of 10,000 or more.
Pelletier asked for the council’s endorsement of her service on the task force, noting the appointment would be perceived as representing the City of Bangor. No councilors objected when Pelletier sought support.
The task force was described in the meeting as a legislative study group charged with examining property tax burdens; Pelletier said she would follow the work closely and requested council guidance on priorities to bring to the group.
