Council confirms appointments, approves easement and authorizes outside counsel for PFAS claims

The council confirmed a slate of appointments by recorded motions and votes attached to separate resolutions. Among the confirmations were appointments to the Wicomico County Ethics Commission, the Lower Shore Workforce Alliance board (Rachel Bomar), the Wicomico County Library Board of Trustees (Eva Paxton and Michelle M. Schleyhofer) and the Wicomico County Board of Appeals (Lauren White). The county executive also submitted Timothy J. Kreisler for appointment as deputy director of Emergency Services; his appointment was submitted for confirmation at the Aug. 5 meeting and will be addressed in closed session discussion later in the evening.
On resolution 113-2025 the council authorized the law firms Baron & Budd PC, Kausich, Sumich, Pearsola & Taylor LLC, and McLeod Law Group LLC to provide legal services to pursue claims for Wicomico County relating to products containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), commonly found in some firefighting foams. The council approved the resolution in a voice vote.
The council also approved resolutions setting the Planning & Zoning Commission’s regular monthly meeting date and several zoning-waiver resolutions related to city annexations in Salisbury (Pohanka/Pine Way and Pawhanka/Chestnut Way) that were presented by the county planning director and granted by the council.
