Council overrides veto and restores vehicle decal requirement for county vehicles

The Wicomico County Council voted unanimously on Aug. 5 to approve Legislative Bill 20-25-09 as originally adopted after receiving and entering the county executive’s veto message into the record and voting to reconsider the legislation.
Miss Hurley read the executive’s veto message into the minutes and the council formally reconsidered the bill. The measure amends the county code governing county vehicles by requiring decals permanently affixed to both front doors of county vehicles and clarifies certain vehicle-use provisions; the bill also exempts the Wicomico County Circuit Court from a provision requiring employees to use county vehicles for official business or forfeit mileage allowances.
Following the public entry of the veto message, a motion to reconsider was made and seconded. The council then voted to approve the bill as originally adopted; the roll call recorded Councilman Hawley, Councilman Hastings, Councilman Shields, Councilman Nunez, Vice President Merritt and the chair all voting “aye.” The motion to approve Legislative Bill 20-25-09 passed unanimously.
